Apple Working on cheaper Iphones

Posted by Unknown on 11:20 with 1 comment
Iphone going to be cheap.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Inc is working on a cheaper version of its popular iPhone that could be released this year, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.
The device could resemble the existing iPhone, but might use less expensive materials, such as a shell made of polycarbonate plastic, according to the report, which cited anonymous sources.
Apple could decide not to move forward with the lower-end iPhone, the report noted.
The product would represent the first time Apple has diversified its line of smartphones with significantly different models since launching the original iPhone in 2007. The company faces pressure from rival smartphone-makers such as Samsung Electronics Co LTD whose products use Google Inc's Android operating system.
Apple declined to comment on the report.
Shares of Apple, which closed Tuesday's regular trading session at $525.31, are down 25.5 percent from their 52-week high of $705.07 in September.

According to a report released by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB), the country is predicted to have about 165 mobile Internet users by March 2015. The report titled 'Mobile Internet in India'  reveals a sharp rise in the usage of Internet via mobile phones in the country.
The report, which covered about 21,000 households from 35 cities, further reveals the number of mobile Internet users in India had gone up to 87.1 million by December 2012 from 78.7 million in three months. Now more users are accessing the Internet via 2G and 3G dongles and even through the tablets, says the report.
The report predicts the number of mobile users will rise to 92.9 million by March 2013, go past 164.8 million in another two years. It's notable the number of mobile users in India stood at 4.1 million in 2009.
Average monthly bill of a user using the web via mobile device is around Rs. 450, notes the study. About 60 percent of the amount, Rs. 198, is spent on the Internet services, while remaining is spent on the voice-related services. The report describes this as a very healthy trends and says this means users are willing to shell out more than 40 percent of the bill on the Internet.
The study also found that the average monthly bill of a user accessing the Internet on mobile devices is INR 450 (US$8.47). Of this amount, 60 percent of those surveyed spent INR 198 (US$3.64) on Internet services while the rest were spent on voice-related services.
Not much to our surprise, e-mail, social networking and instant messaging services emerged as the most used services among the mobile Internet users. Ticketing and e-banking also made it to the list.

Internet turned 30

Posted by Unknown on 18:23 with No comments

The Internet, the last bastion of free speech, the ocean of all knowledge and the one-stop shop for all kinds of fun today turns 30 – and it is looking really good for a 30 year old!
The Internet found its beginnings as Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) when it switched over from using Network Control Protocol to TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol).
History notes that this change was not easy, as many operators resisted going from an already working system to something that was just a “standard” in text. It is said that one day, the admins of ARPANET just flipped the switch, turning off all of NCP for a day or so to get people to switch over to TCP/IP.
With those humble beginnings, the Internet has grown into an entity that is now an integral part of everyone’s lives. While it may be entirely possible to live a day or two without the internet, it is hard to imagine a life without it.
Everything from entertainment to hardcore businesses rely on the Internet as a gateway to achieving the required result. Not to mention the tons of laughter the internet provides. If a worldwide calamity did occur that took out the internet, we might as well just prepare for the dark ages once again.

Yahoo! announced that it is cutting down on some of the Yahoo! Messenger features such as public chat rooms, Windows Live Messenger support, Pingbox on december 14 and will not be offering Yahoo! Voice Phone In and Phone Out services by January 30th, 2013.

Public chat rooms which were topic-based or region-based will stop functioning from December 14 2012. “In order to focus on providing great new features for Yahoo! Messenger, we are discontinuing some Messenger services, including our public chat rooms on December 14. We know that some long-term Yahoo! Messenger users still enjoy these topic-based communities, however we feel that by embracing the modern technologies and platforms available today, Yahoo! will uncover better ways to foster meaningful communities and connections with the people you care about,” said Yahoo on its Messenger help page.

Pingbox is a feature that let users interact privately with visitors on their social networks, blogs, etc., using the users Yahoo! Messenger profile. This service will get the axe as well on December 14. Users using the service can uninstall it using these steps.

Discontinuing WIndows Live Messenger support was somewhat expected after Microsoft announced that it is planning to retire the Live Messenger service and integrate it with Skype. The MIcrosoft contacts on your Yahoo! Messenger profile will still appear, although they will be greyed out and any messages sent will not be delivered.

“We have decided to discontinue several Yahoo! product features. This will enable us to refocus our efforts on modernizing our core Yahoo! products experiences and of course, create new ones,” said the Yahoo! blog post on Friday.
